Congratulations to all the campus stations’ winners and nominees at the recent 2025 Telkom Radio Awards, held in Sandton on Saturday December 6.
Tshwane FM 93.6 walked away with the coveted Campus Station of the Year award. The station, which is staffed by and run for students of Tshwane University of Technology, also won awards for best breakfast show presenter, talk show, night show and sports show. Fellow Gauteng campus stations, VoW 88.1, Tuks FM and UJFM were the others to walk away with silverware on the night, along with North-West University’s Mahikeng campus station, NWU FM.
Honourable mentions and congratulations must also go to all the nominees who didn’t get to step into the spotlight on the night. Runners up in the various campus categories were CUT FM (Central Universtiy of Technology), MFM 92.6 (University of Stellenbosch), PUKfm 93.6 (North-West University’s Potchefstroom campus) and VUT FM 96.9 (Vaal University of Technology).
Wits University’s VoW 88.1, which won best campus station the previous year, racked up four awards on the night. VoW 88.1 was awarded for the best community project, best music show, best weekend show and best promotional stunt. The University of Pretoria’s Tuks FM, which had previously taken the top title five years running from 2019 to 2023, followed up to earn three awards: breakfast show, afternoon drive show and afternoon drive presenter.
UJFM’s Realeboga Nke was awarded best campus news presenter, while NWU FM’s Brunch Vibes with Karabo ‘Ms Kari’ Motshwanedi was awarded for the best campus day time show.
When we asked Tshwane FM’s station manager Tebogo Magubane about his station’s accolades, he said: “Winning Station of the Year is a proud moment for Tshwane FM and a powerful affirmation of the work being done by our team. This award belongs to a committed group of young broadcasters, producers, journalists, and support staff, many of whom are students and volunteers, who consistently show up with passion, discipline, and a deep sense of purpose.
“The growth of our digital platforms, particularly our TikTok community surpassing 100,000 followers, reflects how campus radio continues to evolve, connect, and remain relevant beyond the traditional airwaves. We see this recognition not as a destination, but as motivation to keep developing talent, serving our community, and telling authentic stories that matter.”
