Rhodes Music Radio (RMR) is the official student radio station of Rhodes University. RMR is a non-profit community radio station and began broadcasting in 1981, making it the oldest campus-based radio station in South Africa. The station has historically provided educational, news, music, cultural and general public interest content to the rural town of Makhanda (Grahamstown) and close surrounds.
RMR provides public access to information and facilitates social inclusion through transmission as well as opportunities for people outside of the internal Rhodes University community to participate in station activities. Many prominent personalities in South African radio started their careers at RMR.
