Tshwane FM is the official student radio station of Tshwane University of Technology.
It broadcasts in a 50km radio across Greater Tshwane, Atteridgeville, Laudium to Mamelodi, Centurion, Midrand and parts of northern Johannesburg on the 93.6FM frequency.
The station has been on air 24 hours a day since changing names from TUT Top Stereo in 2010.
Tshwane FM reaches out to all young cosmopolitan listeners within range of its signal. Tshwane FM prides itself on its unique music and talk content. The station’s most popular music genres are hip-hop, house and afro-pop and about 75% of this is local content.
The station’s format is 60%/40% music/talk. The primarily language is English with periodic deliberate switches into the presenters’ home languages. Effectively Tshwane FM broadcasts the way people speak, using English as a basic language of communication, and slipping into home languages when appropriate. Presenters are given considerable freedom to talk about whatever issues they feel are relevant to listeners.
